about

Being fortunate to spend some time in Newfoundland, Fredrick was able to explore the sights and enjoy the company of the warm hearted people. They shared their stories and there is nothing better for a writer than to hear the tales of the land and the people. This song is about a woman who left her small coastal village to follow her love to town.

lyrics

No Townie Girl Was I

I was born by the sea where the church bells ring
No townie girl was I
Where the stars shone bright, as the north winds cried
And dreams rolled with the tide

There I followed my love far away from home
Where the buildings kissed the sky
And there abandoned was I after all our years
One sad winter’s night

Now the cold lays heavy in my bones
And my heart’s grown quiet as stone
Come step with me ‘cross this old oak floor
And take my heart back home

So light a candle dear, let me touch your face
Let me stare into your eyes
If I could only love, if I could only try
For just one more night

I was born by the sea where the wildflowers grow
Cross fields of green and stone
Now I must fai d’wel, oh fare thee well
And live my life alone

Now the cold lays heavy in my bones
And my heart’s grown quiet as stone
Come step with me ‘cross this old oak floor
And take my heart back home

Come step with me ‘cross this old oak floor
And take my heart back home
